10-4-06 Surf Report - Clean Knee to Waist High Lines

This morning at Linda Mar the surf is super clean about knee to waist high. Its a great day for beginners or to have a mellow day out on the long board. A lot less people than over the weekend. Definitely some fun waves to be had. I also checked Rockaway, but that was flat.

And a picture from the North End of LM.

Please leave updates if you have them.

I wonder if I am the only one who doesn't want any more surf reports? Cell phones alone have made it nearly impossible to score good waves without an unbearable crowd clogging things up. I don't want to sound like an asshole but doesn't every surfer look forward to seeing perfect waves and an empty line-up from time to time. As surfers why would we continue to make this event more rare than it already is? Funny thing is that I will check this report again. It's like someone putting a big double layer, fudge topped, ice cream filled chocolate cake in front of a group of compulsive eaters. They love it alright.....there gonna eat it up, eat it all up. Unfortunately their addiction will lead them to destroy the cake by trying to all snag a piece before the other guy. Everyone would have been better off if they never saw the cake in the first place. There still would be cake, the one who put the cake out there won't feel guilty, and maybe a few of the lucky chunkies found the cake on their own and were able to fill up and then leave more cake for the next guy who searches for it. I guess what I'm trying to say is that surfing has always involved taking risks. That's a huge part of it, you take off on waves you're not sure you will make, pull into barrels that don't look makeable. You see, all these reports take the risk out of checking it. Sure sometimes you get skunked but then their are those days......the days that stick with you forever, days that you will tell your grandkids about. All these reports are killing those great days. Thanks for listening. Be the change.

Thanks for your input. I have had the same sort of complex of not wanting to make good days super crowded, but hey, everybody already knows about Linda Mar...I mean you go there on weekends and there are 500 people in the water, so why not create a surf report community.

You can still call up just your friends to know when it is good at the 'secret spots'.

Anyone have any better ideas?

i'd normally agree with you, however LM is a beginner's beach. It's suppossed to be croweded. I remember when I was a beginner(which was not long ago) and I benefited from being around a lot of surfers. I watched, talked to people and crashed and fell, but it was all a part of the learning process.
If you want less croweded beaches, go to Montara or Rockaway or Sharp Park or OB. If you want less crowds, you gotta earn it. Those guys (and girls) that are good enough to surf those other beaches don't have to put up with crowds. I went out to LM on Sunday and it was PACKED. I mean at least 10 people to a wave. I then drove out to Montara and there were maybe 5 people total in the water. Sure the surf was bigger, but that's the reality.

So, bottom line, if you don't like crowds, get better and go to better beaches.

Sometimes you don't mind a crowd and its almost like a bit party.

Some people feel more comfortable being around lots of people and are afraid to go out if there is nobody out...which is good for us. Even the north end of LM can get like this.

gets more crowed every day, this is not going to help. I actually HATE this kind of everyday reporting. you suck, you must be a kook or just plain stupid

i like getting reports, because it helps with figuring out how beaches break, when they break, and how to predict good waves in the future.

being selfish about the things you enjoy never leads to good things. i say, smile, paddle out, and be polite, and everyone can have a good time.

the ocean belongs to everyone. by your argument, there shouldn't be weather channels because then 'your' favorite park gets crowded on sunny days!

surfing is popular now. more people are out, and the beaches aren't getting bigger. just means you have to be a little more slick about finding good spots. plenty out there.

your constant gaze is going to make HER pissed.

Ananymous,
I think that you are going a little overboard. I mean I didn't put up a live cam like they have 2 at OB and one at Steamer Lane one at Pleasure Pt...etc. I think overall it is a good thing. I'm sorry but if you are worried that we are going to get Linda Mar crowded, then I think that you are 10 years too late. I am just happy to share the stoke of surfing with whoever we can. The more people who learn to respect the ocean, the better SHE will get treated.
